The Holiday

Oh dear, has it really been this long?? A thousand apologies and many thanks for your comments and for the Blog Award, Honore! (I feel completely undeserving after having deserted this blog for so long!!!)

I will kick things off with one of the most gorgeous movie knits ever: the cabled cardigan (or is it a sweater?) that Cameron Diaz wears in The Holiday (a thoroughly enjoyable "chick flick" by the way):

FYI, this sweater retails for close to $1000! I kid you not. Ok, it's cashmere but still!

The Edge of Love

In The Edge of Love, a movie starring Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller that takes place during World War II, the costume design is absolutely phenomenal.

There are so many gorgeous knits throughout the film, but one in particular stands out:

This mustard-colored leaf cardigan is very unique-looking, and it seems that a lot of knitters noticed it and are wondering where to find a pattern for it. I did find an etsy shop that sells a very similar-looking vintage pattern:

Oh, and it's not quite as obviously gorgeous, but this little tea cozy caught my eye too:

Isn't it adorable? It could be straight out of Anthropologie ;)

There are many tea cozy patterns on Ravelry that are just so sweet. This one in particular is cute. And I love this one too.

Twilight

It's getting chilly out here, and now is the perfect time to knit up these gorgeous and warm mittens:

Many of you will remember that Kristen Stewart wore these in the film Twilight:

The Cider House Rules

I'm a huge John Irving fan, and I thought this film adaptation of one of his best novels was pretty successful. Charlize Theron is, as usual, unbelievably gorgeous, and I really liked two of her sweaters in the film, both designed by knitwear designer Linda Daniels.

This warm cabled pullover - perfect for those blustery New England fall days :

Linda Daniels published the Cider House boatneck pullover in her book, The Northampton Wools Knitting Book.

The cabled pullover was published in Interweave Knits Fall 2000.

Bonnie and Clyde

In this 1967 classic with Faye Dunway and Warren Beatty, Faye is particularly stunning when she is wearing this gorgeous, intricate short-sleeved sweater featuring super-flattering waist-shaping:

Eunny Chang made a fabulous Bonnie-inspired sweater back in the day, but sadly there is no pattern available for it, as far as I know. KnitLit's version is even closer to the original. Love the three-quarter length sleeves. It looks like she adapted a Tahki Stacy Charles pattern but I wasn't able to locate it. Any ideas?
In the meantime, Stella's Blouse, an Interweave Knits pattern published in Spring 2004, is awfully close.

Empire of the sun

This better-than-average Spielberg movie features Christian Bale as Jamie, a privileged 12-year-old boy in 1940s Shanghai, who struggles to survive when he finds himself separated from his parents as the Japanese invade China.
At the beginning of the movie, there is a scene where Jamie tells his father that he thinks they are "Awfully lucky."
This scene is ill-boding in light of what's to follow, but hey, check out the great cardigan that Jamie's dad is wearing!
